New Kid in Town.....?

Well, not exactly NEW....the Salty Tarpon is a pretty new restaurant on Rt 41 in Punta Gorda, which opened around the New Year at the location next to the Ice House, (where Manatee Pizza formerly resided). Although only a few months old, we only recently realized it was even there, and so we made a point to visit this great place.  Can you tell we were impressed?

We spoke to Chef John, (formerly of the Wyvern & Hilton) who brings an eclectic and sophisticated menu to a warm and inviting setting that can only be described as an elegant sports bar.  We watched some clientele arrive in business attire and some dressed fresh from the beach, it's a place that appeals to everyone.

Chef John prepared an new appetizer creation that had not yet even hit the menu.  Although he didn't even have a name for it...it was a huge portabello mushroom stuffed with fresh crab meat, cheeses and certain spices which he refused to disclose, as his "recipe secret".  Until today, we can never remember when we were "over the moon" about eating a mushroom appetizer.

We followed that up with The Lobster BLT, a mile high sandwich with fresh NE Lobster meat over cucumber, bacon, and a touch of guacamole. 

Yes, the Salty Tarpon has several tradional plates like Fresh Caught Cod Fish n Chips, Burgers, etc.  But you'll find menu eatery options here that you won't find anywhere else in the region.

All we can say is "Kudos" to Chef John, and as Arnold would say...."we'll be back".  (And, yes..we're hooked!)
